Ladies First’ is a one-woman musical written by Krisy Dennis and Bob Garrett and performed by Krisy Dennis.
The show celebrates 14 amazing women from the original suffragette, Emmelline Pankhurst, to feminist activists, Katharine Hepburn and Nora Ephron.
Their monologues are inspired by speeches, quotes and interviews of these great women.
Krisy also sings songs by artists such Alicia Keys, Kate Bush and Stephen Sondheim.

KRISY DENNIS

Krisy Dennis’s singing and acting career in Los Angeles began whenshe moved from her hometown of Las Vegas to attend the American Academy of Dramatic Arts after graduating from high school as an award winning drama student. After acting school, she began her
career doing lead and supporting roles in Equity Waiver and Equity regional theatre.

 

She created roles in original award winning plays and musicals and won a Drama-logue Award for Best Actress for her performance in the musical My Lady Vaudeville at Theatre East, the oldest professional theatrical workshop in the US. She also performed in benefit concerts with Bruno Kirby, Rue MacClanahan, and Theodore Bikel at Theatre East in addition to other lead roles in several plays. Also at Theatre East, she won the Indus Arthur Memorial Award for outstanding apprenticeship and wrote and performed her own one-woman show entitled

Higher Selves.

 

She spent years singing cabaret through out Los Angeles and was lead vocalist with Tracy Wells Big Band performing at Avalon and with the late Steve Allen. She also toured Japan performing jazz standards with her own lounge act.

 

Early film and television credits include Designing Women, Sisters, Dying Young, Barton Fink and lead actress in USC Grad Film Ballad of the Melting Land. She also was featured modeling for Laura San Giacomo as her body double for the film Under Suspicion starring she and Liam Neeson. Recently, she acted in independent films Distrust All,(featured at the Playhouse West Film Festival with James Franco), Pest,Morning Breakfast, and just completed a guest star on web series Wicked Enigma.

 

In addition to training at AMDA, she has studied Sandford Meisner Technique at Dvorak & Company and Playhouse West.

 

She is a proud member of sister unions SAG/AFTRA, and AEA.

BOB GARRETT

Mr. Garrett began his career as an actor, starring on Broadway in Grease, Godspell, Fiddler on the Roof, et al. Bob later recorded for A&M Records, was a song staff writer for Motown. His songs have been recorded by the likes of HEART, Smokey Robinson, and Michael Jackson.

 

Mr. Garrett has also written the lyrics for the Mark Taper Forum production of Stars in Your Eyes, Access Theatre’s Flavia and the Dreammaker, and countless songs for films including The Fight Club, and television themes including NBC’s Gimme a Break.

Mr. Garrett coached the composers on the Broadway smash The Color Purple and is currently writing the book for LIMELIGHT!!, a new Broadway musical, partnered with Franne Golde and composed by Brenda Russell, Stephen Bray, Ari Hest, Ferras, Ms. Golde et al.

 

Mr. Garrett has also vocal coached and directed countless clients in all phases of show business. Among others, he has worked with Emmy winners Jessica Lange, (Grey Gardens), Judy Davis and Tammy Blanchard (Me and My Shadows: Life with Judy Garland), Drew Barrymore (Grey Gardens and Music and Lyrics), Janet Jackson, Katy Perry, Gerard Butler (Phantom of the Opera film version), Brian Stokes Mitchell, Channing Tatum, Wilson-Philips, Vanessa Hudgens, Cameron Diaz, Jane Fonda and countless others.

 

As a result of his work with the legendary Jerome Robbins, Hal Prince, Gower Champion et al, Mr. Garrett carries on the their theatre legacy by teaching Musical Theatre Master Classes. His students currently grace the Billboard charts and the stages of every Broadway musical on the boards.

 

He is currently vocal coaching Elle Fanning for Teen Spirit and Joshua Whitehouse for the musical remake of Valley Girl.

BEN GINSBERG

Ben Ginsberg (Pianist) is a Los Angeles-based pianist, composer-songwriter and music director. He has worked with numerous theatre companies, choral groups and houses of worship across Southern California, Seattle and New York City, including Center Theatre Group (Amélie, Grey Gardens, Zoot Suit), The Wallis Center for the Performing Arts, Beverly Hills (Merrily We Roll Along, Frankenstein, Headless, For the Record: Scorsese), 5-Star Theatricals/Cabrillo Music Theatre, Thousand Oaks (Damn Yankees, Evita, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Sister Act, Children of Eden), Loyola Marymount University (Cabaret, Songs for a New World), Interlochen Summer Arts Camp (The Wiz), C.S.U. Channel Islands (In The Heights), Los Angeles County High School for the Arts (Sweeney Todd, Urinetown), the Gay Men’s Chorus of Los Angeles, the Esoterics (under Eric Banks), and the Metropolitan Synagogue of New York City, Los Angeles Symphonic Winds, and the Puget Sound, Moorpark and Santa Barbara Youth Symphony Orchestras. With the Santa Barbara Youth Ensemble Theatre he has music directed and performed twice for Oprah Winfrey. As a session keyboardist, he is the piano double for the upcoming film The Ringmaster, directed by Maya Albanese.

 

He earned his B.F.A. in Piano Performance from CalArts, his M.A. (with Distinction) in Music Industry Administration from C.S.U. Northridge, and his M.F.A. in Musical Theatre Composition from N.Y.U. Tisch. His songs “The Color of You” (lyrics by Jordan Toopes) and “Teach Me To Dance” (lyrics by Thalia Ranjbar) have been performed at the monthly Composers’ Showcase in Las Vegas (produced by Keith Thompson). He has written music, book and/or lyrics for multiple original works at both N.Y.U. and the Academy for New Musicals in North Hollywood, including CITY OF HOPE (with Zoe Ray Prawda), RAMIN (with Thalia Ranjbar), MINORU: Scrape the Sky (with Momo Akashi), VIEW FROM THE MOON (with Stacey Weingarten and Richard Holland), and CHESSICA’S ADVENTURES IN BUTTFISHLAND (with Brian Morales), premiering July 8-11, 2023, at the Zephyr Theatre. His original song “Heaven,” co-written with and sung by Jorgie, premiered on American Idol Season 17 in March 2019. IG @benjginz3
